Inspiring Education in London

In 2011 the FSC opened its first built environment Centre. With an office in Stratford and classroom space at the View Tube alongside the use of other sites across London, we delivered educational sessions to over 15,000 people in our first year using the evolving and vibrant mix of buildings, spaces and parks around London to inspire and educate.

Our groups are becoming a familiar sight as a many of the courses offered are based outside, using spaces and communities for investigation, including areas around the Olympic Park, the Docklands and Greenwich Park.

Our classroom, at the View Tube, is a unique vantage point providing a panoramic view of the Olympic stadium and across the Olympic Park, however we understand and try to communicate to groups that this is just one part of the developing story of East London. We also use a number of other local sites including the Archives in Stratford Library, House Mill, the Viewing Gallery at Holden Point and St Johns Church.

Based on our successes, we are now working with The Royal Parks in Bushy Park, Greenwich Park and The Regent's Park to run Environmental Education sessions. The Discovery Trail is an exciting chance for groups to find out more about their local natural environment and to discover more about the plants and animals found in the parks.
