Introducing Lichens will focus on explaining what lichens are and how they can be distinguished in the field. No previous knowledge is assumed as the course is designed for students, naturalists and citizen scientists alike.
At the end of the day participants can expect to feel confident in the naming of a range of common species and have sufficient background for projects using lichens as bio-indicators of environmental conditions.
This course runs from 09.30 to 17.00. Please bring a packed lunch.
Transport maybe required to access a field site.
John Skinner is the Museum Manager at Southend Museum and has extensive experience working with the lichens of the region.
He is looking forward to helping people extend their knowledge and to encourage more recording of lichens.
