Woodland Ecology and Management: The Basics

This one day course is aimed at anyone working, or volunteering, or has an interest in the woodland environment and would like to learn more about woodland ecology and how management practices, or lack of, effect it. No previous knowledge is required.
Topics include habitats within woodlands, the role of animals in woodland ecology, primary and secondary succession as well as diversity of structure and species. Also discussed: what conservationists are seeking to achieve in manipulating succession, when or if intervention is desirable or non-intervention better, plus types of conservation work used. Site visits require appropriate outdoor clothing and good walking boots/shoes
The course runs from 09.30 to 17.00 and price includes a free FSC guide 'Woodland Plants'.
Please bring a packed lunch and transport is required to field sites.
Andy Deane is a lecturer in Arboriculture and Countryside Management. He is also a Lantra registered assessor/trainer in chainsaw and related activities with many years 'hands-on' experience in woodland management.
