This course is for anyone who feels fairly confident that they know their 'core' garden and woodland bird songs.
We will start by revising and checking on these and then we will visit some different habitats including heathland, forest and reedbed to listen for a wider range of species, such as stone curlew, woodlark, Dartford warbler, Cetti's warbler and bearded tit.
A range of simple techniques are used to help you to memorise sound patterns, including using pre-recorded sounds on smartphone apps, MP3 devices and DVDs and learning how to interpret special 'sound pictures' called sonograms.
The content is also appropriate for anyone wishing to contribute to their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
Steve Piotrowski is one of the most experienced birders in Suffolk and author of the acclaimed The Birds of Suffolk.
He is an environmental consultant working mainly on ways of increasing the populations of threatened and protected species such as barn owl, turtle dove and tree sparrow. He has worked as an Associate Tutor with FSC at Flatford Mill for over 10 years.
