On this spring weekend course we will be photographing garden flowers and wild plants in a woodland setting. We will compare the different photographic techniques required for working in a formal setting and a natural habitat.
There will be time to take general vistas and take a closer look to get detail shots that capture the essence of mid to late spring. You will experiment with the use of perspective and how it can add depth to your pictures. Plus we will observe how different viewpoints and the direction of the light can influence the overall impact of your image.
We will also take time to look at the various types of cameras, how they work and share our knowledge about the equipment the group is using on the course.
We will compare the use of specialist lenses and filters for close-up photography, and weigh up the pros and cons of working with a tripod. We will look at how and when to use a reflector to bounce light back onto the subject. Plus we will discuss how the weather and lighting can alter your images.
This is a practical course, with most of the time devoted to composing and taking pictures and evaluating their merits, rather than post image manipulation.
The emphasis of this course is composing pictures in camera rather than post-image manipulation. It is suitable for those with an advanced compact or digital SLR camera who have basic computer skills.
If you are also interested in the image manipulation aspect of digital photography, please see our other courses on Digital Imaging using Photoshop Elements.
