Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

Identifying Moths: More Difficult Macros and Micro Families

  • Non-Resident: £158
  • Shared Room: £204
  • Sole Occupancy: £224

A course for anyone who is fairly familiar with the commoner moth species. We will set moth traps for live specimens and also refer to a comprehensive collection of voucher specimens.

This will help you work through the defining features of some of the macro lookalikes, such as pugs and noctuids (for example rustic/uncertain) and the larger micro families, including the pyralids and tortricids.

One session will cover dissection techniques for those who are concerned to ensure accurate identification of confusion species for the purposes of biological recording.

The content is appropriate for anyone wishing to contribute to their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.

Please note that we are aware that this course runs during the first week of the London Olympic Games. There will be a TV available for anyone who wants to catch up on an event or two!
