Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

Otters, Water Voles and Other Riverside Mammals

  • Non-Resident: £220
  • Sole Occupancy: £288
  • Shared Room: £268

This weekend covers the identification, natural history and ecology of our native riverside mammals, including otter and water vole, and their interactions with naturalised introductions such as American mink.

It will examine field evidence, tracks and signs, survey techniques used on mapping projects and the requirements for creating and maintaining suitable habitat to ensure the effective conservation of our native species.

It is equally suitable for anyone with a general interest in natural history and those who have a professional interest in otters and water voles as BAP (Biodiversity Action Plan) species.

The content is also appropriate for anyone wishing to contribute to their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.

Darren Tansley is Water for Wildlife Officer with Essex Wildlife Trust and has extensive experience of working with riverside mammals, including re-introducing water voles into their former range.

‘Darren knows his stuff! Learnt lots’. Course participant April 2011.
