This course aims to give you the skills to identify all the UK's amphibians and reptiles, including rare and alien species, but focussing on those most commonly encountered. You should also gain insights into effective field surveying for amphibians and reptiles through an understanding of their ecology and life histories.
We will discuss key diagnostic features to enable species identification, as well as look at trickier ID characteristics and practice these through field surveys. Local amphibian and reptile site visits will be used to gain an understanding of the key needs of the UK's herpetofauna in our landscape.
John Wilkinson is a conservation ecologist who has been working with amphibians and reptiles for over 15 years. He is currently Research and Monitoring Officer for Amphibian and Reptile Conservation and coordinates the National Amphibian and Reptile Recording Scheme (NARRS).
