This weekend course in late spring is at the ideal time to see and hear songbirds. With the breeding season well underway, they will be actively singing and displaying, whilst the comparative lack of leaves, hopefully, means that those that are heard may also be seen. The course will concentrate on developing identification skills by sight and song, using field notes and sketches as important aids to observation. There will be at least one early start, so come prepared for a long fieldwork day. The habitats visited will comprise mostly of farmland, woodland and waterside sites, including some work on the Preston Montford Estate. The course is geared to those wishing to improve their identification skills and those who have little or no experience of bird song. A copy of Bird Songs and Calls by Geoff Sample is included in the course fee.
Kevin Clements is a County Bird Recorder and Deputy Chairman of the West Midlands Bird Club. An experienced field ornithologist and naturalist, he has worked for many organisations in conservation and biological recording.
