This course is designed to be an introduction to data handling and analysis. If you have limited knowledge of statistical analyses or need a refresher, then this is a good starting point.

In this course you will learn the important analytical methods that underpin all data handling. We begin by examining ways to look at your data and how to manipulate and reorganize them ready for analysis. We will learn methods of summarizing data before moving on to the idea of hypothesis testing. We will then cover a range of analytical methods including testing for differences (including, t-test, U test and anova), correlations (as well as multiple regression) and associations. You will also learn how to produce graphs to illustrate your results in the most effective way.

This course is suitable for anyone who would like to analyze and present their biological data in a professional manner.

Mark Gardener is an ecologist with a wide range of experience of fieldwork in the UK and abroad. He currently teaches environmental science and data analysis and has recently published a textbook on data analysis for ecologists.
