The Great Crested Newt (GCN Licence) course provides a balance of classroom based work and practical sessions for those interested in acquiring a great crested newt scientific license. Course work covers: species identification its various life stages, the protection afforded to great crested newts under current legislation, and the ecology of great crested newts and their habitat. Practical sessions will give participants hands-on experience in at least three of the relevant survey methods, including bottle trapping, torching and egg searching with consideration of the benefits and constraints of each of the methods. Participants will also practice assessing the suitability of aquatic habitats for great crested newts.
Jackie Underhill is an experienced trainer who works as an independent ecological consultant. She has over 10 years’ professional experience working with great crested newts.
